My pioneer ancestors came to Utah as religious refugees. They built a new life for themselves in what was then a foreign country. Modern refugees and immigrants deserve the same opportunity my ancestors had.
While immigration is rightly a federal issue, we should make Utah a welcome place for all newcomers. I believe the Bible when it says, “the stranger that dwelleth with you shall be unto you as one born among you, and thou shalt love him as thyself” (Leviticus 19:34). I stand with The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints in opposition to policies that tear families apart.
